How kinesiology works: the science of Muscle Response Testing

In very simple terms kinesiology works by giving the practitioner a step-by-step way to access your body's innate wisdom. If you stop for a second and close your eyes do you know what your body wants right now? Maybe you want to lay your head down and let go, relax all muscle tension. Perhaps taking the time now, just to reflect internally, you realise you are thirsty, your mouth is dry. But what about the bigger questions? Like unhappiness? And not knowing which way to move forward?Or like my client who was struggling with her boss? She couldn't leave her job but she was feeling more and more miserable at work. Consider niggling issues... a constant leaking of energy that doesn't seem important...

Well using muscle response testing, kinesiology starts to frame your problem. And by narrowing the focus you discover the priority correction. From drinking more water or scheduling set times to pursue something creative to feed your soul you discover a variety of ways and means to meet your most fundamental needs. One model is the Touch For Health Triangle of Health. This model offers a triangle with equal sides balancing in harmony your body's physical/structural health with your emotional/psychological health and your biochemical (think hormones and chemical messengers) health. If my neck and shoulder muscles are tense and tight I may get a headache: physically and structurally I'm not healthy. If this continues it will affect my mood and I may become irritable and very short-tempered: emotional and physical health. In turn, this may increase the level of stress hormones in my system: biochemical health. A quick fix would be to take some painkillers. A medium-term fix would be exercise more, stretch more. A true fix? Well, kinesiology will use muscle response testing to ascertain specifically for the person what they need. Kinesiology looks to find what your body and soul want most. So Client Clare presents with a pain in her neck. (Can you already guess where I'm heading with this?) Yes, its a metaphor.

Physically she really does have pain and it's located in her neck. But as we talk and explore her pattern of over-energized and under-energized muscles she mentions a horrible ongoing problem with a family member. Perhaps this person is actually her 'pain in the neck'. In restoring energy flow to her muscles we impact not only her physical structure easing out the strain, but she experiences a lightbulb moment and notices how this problem has been depressing her (emotional/psychological health). Muscle response testing reveals she needs a Flower Essence. The essence chosen discusses personal power and expression of Self intense situations. The vibration of the essence matches her vibration of 'poor me, I can't change the other person, I'm powerless'.

Now Clare's face lights up, energy flows again releasing the stuckness (muscle tensions). In naming her fear - 'I have no power' - she suddenly has a choice again. Her brain integrates and now she comes up with her own solutions or strategies. She has raised her vibrational energy and that alone will affect and alter the matching of her energy fields with the energy of the person who was previously the 'pain in her neck'. Clare returns for her next balance and says when she saw that family member nothing negative happened. It was all easy.

To summarize, a headache caused by pain in the neck was a physical message that emotionally and psychologically Clare felt powerless and stuck. And a headache tablet? A simple chemical painkiller was never going to help empower Clare. It would ease the pain but not actually heal the true cause of the pain.

I have worked with people who have been on pain medication for years. I find it distressing that only managing their pain appears to have been where the conversation stopped.

Pain is a major cause of absenteeism: not just from work but from the joy of a life fully lived. Ongoing pain debilitates and costs a person dearly. They limit their choices to accommodate the pain, a big chunk of their daily energy is expended just getting by while handicapped by their pain. I've noted when my clients look grey with exhaustion or low in spirits and how this changes once the deeper underlying reasons for their pain has been explored.

Muscle response testing enables me to take into account all aspects comprising my client by exploring their energy fields. Perhaps a meridian is not flowing well and just like a creek is backing up and causing flooding in another meridian. Or their Aura is not aligned with their human body so they frequently feel 'out of sorts' and 'restless'.

I also work with Chakras. Their energy is communicated through the endocrine system in the body. Take for instance a key hormone - cortisol -  linked to stress. The Base chakra communicates information to do with safety and survival. If threatened the base chakra must keep you safe. So adrenalin is released, cortisol rises you become vigilant, hyper-alert and ready for action.

Have you heard of Fight/Flight/Freeze? These are three ways the body and brain manage danger.

Remember my client who had trouble relating to her boss? Well her adrenalin was pumping but she couldn't fight her boss or flee (run away/flight). She absorbed her stress and froze. In other words she 'sucked it up', she 'put up and shut up', she kept her 'head down' and didn't 'stick her neck out'. However her cortisol levels changed, her adrenalin was being released so she could act but she had no way to act, she felt powerless to address the demands her boss placed on her. With muscle response testing we could clear the stress so her brain's energy could flow again. Then we found the support tools which would help her maintain her new calm self when she went back to work. We also changed the angle from which she was viewing her situation. Seen differently, and with access to full brain function, she was no longer 'frozen' we discovered she could have in the mantra Ho'oponopono. Her feedback the next time I saw her was amazing. She told me her boss was 'scarily nice' to her. Importantly the decision which was impacting her so negatively had been reversed, and now she felt confident and happy at work.

The decision had hinged on a door: whether a door was left open or not. This may have seemed a minor thing. However, in addressing it using kinesiology a bigger picture emerged and by focusing on herself and her energy fields my client resolved her issue...WITHOUT having to even speak to her boss!!
